THE OPPORTUNITY:

Our client, an innovative organization that specializes in designing industrial networks and automation solutions for brownfield modernization and greenfield installation projects, is seeking a BIM Coordinator/Electrical Engineer for their Richmond office.

This role will be responsible for delivering networked solutions for integration projects, requiring strong communication skills and technical acumen in electrical power and control design. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of similar experience with a systems integrator or engineering firm and will be required to proactively keep up to date with the latest software and technology.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Collaborating with the integration team to design, develop, and commission plant-wide power systems, industrial IT, and control systems for projects globally, ranging from greenfield installations to plant modernizations.
  • Researching, designing, and developing electrical systems across the entire industrial facility.
  • Overseeing the administration, revision control, and development of 3D electrical design including room and equipment layouts, cable tray, and conduit designs.
  • Serving as the primary contact to coordinate 3D model design implementation with other disciplines working within the same model.
  • Ensuring adherence to all relevant electrical codes and best practices.
  • Developing LV power systems, MCC layouts, VFD specifications and selection, cable schedules, and electrical equipment installation.
  • Developing technical specifications and drawings for electrical systems, including single-line diagrams, cable-tray layouts, grounding, cable sizing, lighting layout, and lightning and protection.
  • Preparing the technical portion of the tendering package, detailed engineering scope, construction specification, and inspection and test plans.
  • Coordinating and communicating with all project stakeholders, including contractors and process equipment vendors, to resolve technical issues.
  • Ensuring work is reviewed and approved before release to project stakeholders and clients.
  • Preparing documentation transmittals.
  • Providing construction supervision at project sites during installation.
  • Auditing contractor RFI’s and change order requests for technical validity and assisting in quantifying change order value.
  • Proactively identifying risks, providing recommendations, and implementing solutions to ensure safe and practical design work.
  • Following standardized operating procedures and creating new procedures when required.
  • Participating in regular internal meetings to ensure the success of the Technical User Groups and investigating new technologies to advance existing technology and infrastructure.
  • Contributing to a positive client experience by delivering well-presented project material on time and creating and delivering technical presentations to project stakeholders or prospective clients.
  • Contributing to the improvement of current standards and specifications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of electrical design experience in an industrial or service-oriented environment, preferably with a smaller dynamic company.
  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or related discipline, with relevant industry certifications or designations (any industrial design or programming certificates are considered an asset).
  • Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD or EPLAN, with proficiency in Revit 3D electrical design.
  • Strong skills in BIM coordination with an emphasis on 3D design skills and model management.
  • Ability to perform electrical design tasks, including:
    • Cable tray sizing
    • Cable sizing for various applications
    • E-Room layouts
    • Cable tray routing and support designs
  • Experience delivering a complete set of project documents, including single lines, schematics, cable schedules, load flow calculations, cable sizing calculations, panel layouts, and IO lists.
  • Experience working with ETAP as a design tool for short circuits, load flow, or protection coordination studies is considered an asset.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety on-site and when working with clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a highly interactive team environment and establish positive relationships with all project stakeholders.
  • Results-driven and motivated, with the capability of delivering thoughtful advice to senior leadership and project stakeholders.

  • Travel may be required to visit project sites and meet with clients, with travel expectations ranging from 5% to 25% depending on the project.

COMPENSATION: $80K to $95K
