THE OPPORTUNITY:

Our client, an innovative organization that specializes in designing industrial networks and automation solutions for brownfield modernization and greenfield installation projects, is seeking an Electrical Engineer for their Richmond office.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and expertise in electrical power and control design, covering specification, layout, detailed design, and construction support. They will proactively stay current with emerging technologies to keep the company at the forefront of industry advancements.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Collaborating with the engineering team to design, develop, deploy, and commission plant-wide power systems, industrial IT, and control systems for global projects, including both greenfield installations and plant modernizations.
  • Researching, designing, and developing electrical systems for entire industrial facilities.
  • Administering, controlling revisions, and developing 3D electrical designs, including room and equipment layouts, cable tray, and conduit designs.
  • Modeling complete electrical power systems using ETAP or similar software, and conducting various power system studies, including:
    • Short circuit analysis
    • Phase coordination
    • Arc flash studies
    • Load flow analysis
    • Harmonic analysis
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant electrical codes and best practices.
  • Developing MV and LV power systems, MCC layouts, VFD specifications and selection, cable schedules, and electrical equipment installation specifications.
  • Specifying and designing control panels for industrial automation projects, including automation equipment for both brownfield and greenfield projects.
  • Creating technical specifications and drawings for electrical systems, such as single-line diagrams, cable tray layouts, grounding, cable sizing, lighting layouts, and lightning protection.
  • Preparing technical portions of the tendering package, detailed engineering scopes, construction specifications, and inspection and test plans.
  • Ensuring all relevant work is reviewed and approved prior to release to project stakeholders and clients in accordance with EGBC engineering requirements and the Cogent Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP).
  • Preparing documentation transmittals.
  • Assisting in the development of electrical project budgets and estimates, including engineering hours, equipment, materials, and installation costs.
  • Supervising construction at project sites during installation.
  • Auditing contractor RFIs and change order requests for technical validity and assisting in quantifying change order values.
  • Coordinating and communicating with project stakeholders, including contractors and equipment vendors, to resolve technical issues across all project phases.
  • Proactively identifying risks, providing recommendations, and implementing safe and practical design solutions.
  • Following standardized operating procedures and creating new procedures when needed.
  • Participating in regular internal meetings to ensure the success of Technical User Groups and exploring new technologies to advance existing technology and infrastructure.
  • Enhancing the client experience by delivering well-presented project materials on time.
  • Creating and delivering technical presentations to project stakeholders or prospective clients.
  • Contributing to the improvement of current standards and specifications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years of electrical design experience in industrial companies or service-oriented consultancies.
  • Previous experience working in smaller business environments, with the ability to switch between engineering and client responsibilities.
  • Undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or related discipline. Industrial design or programming certificates are considered an asset.
  • Professional engineering designation (P. Eng).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or EPLAN as a 2D electrical design tool.
  • Proven experience using design software to create plant-wide electrical designs in 3D (Revit preferred).
  • Experience delivering comprehensive project documents including single lines, schematics, cable schedules, load flow calculations, cable sizing, panel layouts, IO lists, etc.
  • Experience using ETAP for power system studies and analysis.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining the highest health and safety standards on site and with clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and establish positive relationships with stakeholders.

  • Travel may be required for project site visits and client meetings, ranging from 5% to 25% depending on project needs.

COMPENSATION:

  • up to 5 years experience up to $95K base
  • 6-8 years experience $96K to $110K base
  • 9 years and beyond $111K to $120K base
