THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are currently seeking a skilled Electronics Engineer interested in undertaking a rewarding contract position within the marine transportation and shipbuilding field. In this role, you will participate in all phases of new construction design projects, including requirements decomposition, design, analysis, material specification & selection, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities. You will also liaise with internal and external partner design teams to ensure that the Electronics design is produced in accordance with current equipment information and adheres to production design standards & procedures.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Providing engineering and design expertise in assigned areas of Electronics by preparing design packages to ensure requirements are met.
  • Supporting the Electronics Engineering Manager by providing mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.
  • Developing and reviewing design documents for fisheries, icebreaking, and naval replenishment vessels to achieve customer, Classification Society, and regulatory approval.
  • Establishing material specifications and bills of material in accordance with organizational material strategies and customer requirements.
  • Providing technical direction to suppliers and subcontractors regarding Electronics Systems design, ensuring contract, cost, and schedule performance is achieved.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 5 + years’ experience in a system engineering environment, preferably in the defence or shipbuilding industry.
  • P.Eng. or EGBC registration and qualified to apply for P.Eng.
  • Ability to obtain a Canadian Reliability security clearance (Canadian Citizen).

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is an asset.
  • Ability to analyze, define, and maintain customer, system, and regulatory requirements in a system engineering life cycle tool for one or many communications networks.
  • Proficiency in developing system designs based on requirements, satisfying various build, cost, schedule, logistics, and other non-technical constraints.
  • Capability to analyze system design from various perspectives, such as reliability, security, buildability, maintainability, etc.
  • Experience using system engineering processes to verify and validate system designs via documentation, testing, analysis, etc.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation and strict configuration control.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to specify and maintain hardware lists to support system design.
  • Expertise supporting internal departments with the development of technical interfaces. 
  • Aptitude for preparing and executing design reviews in accordance with a system engineering process.
  • Expert analytical skills, gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing data, confirming accuracy and adequacy.
  • Strong technical writing skills, producing and presenting clear and detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
  • Solid understanding of CADMATIC or ACAD software, document management systems, and databases.
  • Commitment to safety standards, following all established safety laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Good judgment with the ability to make decisions in a manner consistent with the crucial job functions.

COMPENSATION:

  • Sole proprietor: $40-$50/hour
  • Incorporated: $43-$53/hour
