We are seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to join our client’s team, which provides engineering and automation solutions to industrial clients. As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a vital role in designing and programming EIC systems, ensuring that their needs and expectations are met, while complying with current electrical codes and requirements. YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:
- Performing electrical engineering and design for greenfield and existing industrial applications, 120V to 25kV
- Validating electrical systems utilizing standard engineering tools and software
- Preparing, reviewing, and approving engineering and design deliverables, including medium & low voltage power distribution single line diagrams, power and control schemes, equipment and cable tray layouts, cable schedules, cable and conduit routings, grounding, ground grid, lightning, and lighting layouts
- Developing equipment, instrument, and motor lists and cable schedule, ensuring each meets client specifications and company standards
- Sizing protective devices, circuit breakers, cables & VFDs, completing load demand calculations
- Designing electrical rooms, location drawings, MCCs & VFDs panel layouts, and motor control schematics
- Performing power studies in Etap, SKM or EasyPower: load flow, short circuit analysis, coordination study, arc flash, harmonic study, voltage drop for electrical distribution systems
- Setting up protection devices, circuit breakers, and protection relays
- Preparing, reviewing, and approving engineering studies, calculations, and technical documentation to support design activities
- Interpreting specifications, ensuring compliance to company standards and client requirements, providing feedback regarding changes
- Preparing, reviewing, and approving engineering specifications, commissioning plans and technical bid evaluations for electrical equipment: power transformers, medium, and low voltage switchgear, medium voltage starters, motor control centers, variable frequency drives
- Reviewing and approving vendor drawings, inspecting electrical components during and after installation, and performing FAT testing in-house and occasionally at remote locations
- Corresponding with electrical fabrication shops and electrical contractors
- Performing supervision and commissioning services at client site as needed as per the commissioning schedule which will require work to be completed after hours, on weekends, and on statutory holidays from time to time
- Communicating effectively with clients regarding the progress of project goals
- Managing individual projects to ensure they are prioritized and completed according to schedule, giving feedback to project managers, and providing time estimates for work that will be performed
- Supporting the sales team with preparing estimates and proposals for projects
- Entering work hours and comments into the timesheet program every week by the deadline
- Corresponding with BC Hydro to clarify scope of work and supply, power cable routing and metering requirements, as needed
- Working collaboratively with diverse internal and external stakeholders, project managers, engineers, designers, and drafters
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution
- Minimum 10 years’ current and relevant professional experience in a similar role
- P. Eng. designation in good standing with Engineers and Geoscientists BC
- Proficiency with Etap, SKM, and/or EasyPower
- Expert understanding of power studies Load Flow, Power Factor Correction, Protective Device Coordination, Short Circuit, Arc Flash, and Ground Grid
- Working knowledge of industry standards and requirements pertaining to electrical systems and safety, including Canadian Electrical Code and NFPA
- Familiarity with international standards (ex. NEC, IEC) will be an asset
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
