We are looking for a senior-level industrial IT/OT Engineer to join the Richmond office of our client, an organization that specializes in designing and implementing industrial IT and automation solutions for clients globally.

Reporting directly to the Vice President/General Manager, this role will collaborate with clients to design industrial networks and automation solutions for brownfield modernization and greenfield installation projects. The position also includes delivering industrial networked solutions for all integration projects. 

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and technical expertise in industrial IT systems, including specification, architecture, configuration, and commissioning. With at least 8 years of experience in a similar capacity, preferably with a systems integrator or engineering firm, the Engineer should share the organization’s values and commitment to corporate social responsibility. They are expected to stay current with the latest software and technology developments to stay at the forefront of the industry.


  • Working with the integration team to design, develop, and commission plant-wide industrial IT and control systems globally, ranging from greenfield installations to plant modernizations.
  • Researching, designing, developing, and commissioning robust IT systems, defining technical specifications, cyber security requirements, networking and integration plans, virtualized environments, and network device/server configurations.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting software, hardware, and network issues.
  • Providing design input to cross-functional teams developing deliverables, including network panel and plant-wide system architecture drawings.
  • Preparing the technical portion of IT work, tendering packages, inspection and test plans, and commissioning plans.
  • Coordinating with stakeholders, contractors, and vendors to resolve technical issues.
  • Planning and implementing system security, including firewalls and access permissions.
  • Analyzing network requirements and contributing to design of network system architecture, integration, and installation.
  • Preparing and maintaining detailed documentation and infrastructure diagrams.
  • Identifying risks, providing recommendations, and implementing solutions to maintain the integrity of infrastructure and operations.
  • Supervising construction, commissioning, and start-up activities during control system implementation, guiding clients through Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing.
  • Following standardized operating procedures and creating new procedures as needed.
  • Participating in weekly meetings to ensure Technical User Groups’ success and exploring new technologies.
  • Maintaining internal IT infrastructure, computer systems, and servers.
  • Contributing to positive client experience by delivering quality project material on time.
  • Creating and delivering technical presentations to project stakeholders and prospective clients.
  • Developing and maintaining long-term technology strategy for projects and internally.


  • Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline and/or has obtained relevant industry certifications or designations. 
  • Registration or eligibility to register as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) with good standing.
  • 8+ years of industrial IT/OT network and automation design experience gained from industrial companies or service oriented consultancies. 
  • Experience working for a smaller business entity with the ability to adapt to changing engineering and client priorities.
  • Understanding of communications network architectures such as TCP/IP, modbus, CIPsafety, and other common industrial network protocols.
  • Experience with programming, preferably in an industrial setting related to PLC’s and/or HMIs.
  • Experience in complete plant wide network design, implementation, and commissioning.
  • Virtualization experience with a working knowledge of VMWare and Azure.
  • Experience setting up automation system historians, data management schemes, and communications.
  • Network or system administration experience, including setting up access and permissions.
  • Experience in project management and cloud computing, specifically Microsoft Azure.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP and VLANs.
  • A strong commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety on site.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a highly interactive team environment and establish positive relationships with all project stakeholders.
  • Results-driven and motivated approach with the capability of delivering thoughtful advice to senior leadership and project stakeholders, effectively communicating technical information to non-technical audiences.

  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites and meet with clients (travel expectations are project specific and can range from 5% to 25%).


  • Any industrial programming certificates will be an asset.
  • System administration and IT certifications in Microsoft, or other network related fields will be an asset.


  • $110000 – $140,000 annual salary (commensurate with experience) + plus potential annual performance bonus.
