Civil/Stormwater Engineer

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:
A typical day includes a mix of design, coordination, and client interaction, with the focus firmly on site and servicing design:
- Designing municipal stormwater and civil servicing infrastructure
(culverts, storm sewers, detention/ponds, road/servicing layouts) - Preparing stormwater management plans (site-level + some watershed context)
- Developing drawings, technical memos, and design briefs
- Coordinating with internal civil, geotechnical, and landscape teams
- Supporting municipal clients and explaining design decisions clearly
- Conducting hydrologic/hydraulic assessments (spreadsheet calcs; modeling context is helpful, but you will not be doing full modelling)
- Preparing cost estimates and capital improvement plans
- Providing construction support (site reviews, responding to contractor questions)
- Delegating to and mentoring junior staff
- Contributing to technical reports and proposals
WHAT IS A MUST:
These are essential, and candidates should be confident in them on day one:
- P.Eng. in BC
- 4–8 years of experience in civil/municipal servicing design or stormwater design
- Experience preparing stormwater management plans (subdivision or site level)
- Strong experience in municipal servicing design (stormwater + civil servicing)
- Hands-on stormwater design experience for site development (culverts, sewers, ponds, layouts)
- Ability to work through complex/unconventional sites
- Solid understanding of hydrology & hydraulics (spreadsheet-based calcs)
- Strong communication skills with municipal clients and internal teams
- Ability to perform occasional local field reviews.
- Valid driver’s license;
WHAT CAN BE LEARNED ON THE JOB:
- Green Infrastructure (GI/LID) specifics — they will teach this
- Detailed hydrologic/hydraulic modeling (PC-SWMM, etc.) — helpful but not core to this role
- Capital planning, estimating, and proposals
- Construction review experience (can learn)
- Mentorship/supervision of junior staff
- Coordination with landscape/geotech disciplines
- Policy development or large-scale planning (not a main part of this role)
COMPENSATION: $104,000-$120,000
