THE OPPORTUNITY:

Our client is a growing systems engineering and industrial automation company serving mining, infrastructure, transportation, and other industrial sectors. We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Team Lead to lead the HR function and partner closely with the Principal and management team across the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compensation, development, retention, and HR operations. This is a hands-on role overseeing an HR Generalist and balancing strategic HR support with day-to-day operational needs. We are looking for a practical, people-focused HR professional with strong judgment, communication skills, and experience working in a technical, project-based environment. You will work directly and collaboratively with the ownership team in this role.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:

  • HR Strategy & Business Partnership
    • Leading the HR function and developing people strategies aligned with business objectives and organizational priorities.
    • Partnering with the Principal and leadership team on workforce planning, organizational development, and key people-related decisions.
    • Providing practical, strategic HR guidance to managers and identifying opportunities to strengthen organizational effectiveness.
    • Supporting continued organizational growth through effective people programs, policies, and practices.
  • Talent Acquisition & Employee Lifecycle
    • Leading recruitment and workforce planning for engineering, technical, project management, and corporate positions.
    • Partnering with hiring managers throughout the recruitment, selection, and onboarding process.
    • Developing and maintaining strong talent pipelines for specialized and hard-to-fill positions.
    • Overseeing job descriptions, offers, onboarding, employee transitions, and offboarding processes.
    • Ensuring resignations, terminations, and employee departures are being managed professionally, respectfully, and consistently.
    • Conducting exit interviews and leveraging feedback to strengthen employee experience and retention.
    • Strengthening the employer brand and ability to attract high-quality technical and professional talent.
  • Employee Relations & Workplace Support
    • Serving as a trusted resource for managers and employees on workplace and employment matters.
    • Providing guidance on employee relations, performance, attendance, conduct, and workplace conflicts.
    • Leading or supporting workplace investigations and other sensitive employee matters.
    • Coaching managers through challenging conversations, performance issues, and employment decisions.
    • Fostering a positive, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative workplace environment.
  • Performance, Talent & Organizational Development
    • Leading and continuously enhancing the performance management process.
    • Supporting career development, succession planning, and talent management initiatives.
    • Identifying opportunities for leadership development, training, and organizational learning.
    • Coaching managers to strengthen employee performance, engagement, and professional development.
  • Compensation, Benefits & HR Operations
    • Overseeing compensation and benefits programs in partnership with Finance and external providers.
    • Ensuring HR operations are remaining efficient, responsive, accurate, and employee-focused.
    • Leading the administration, optimization, and implementation of the HRIS.
    • Maintaining accurate employee records, documentation, and HR data.
  • HR Policies, Compliance & Risk
    • Developing, maintaining, and implementing practical HR policies, procedures, and guidelines.
    • Ensuring compliance with applicable BC employment standards, human rights, workplace safety, privacy, and other employment legislation.
    • Monitoring legislative and regulatory changes and proactively recommending updates to HR practices.
    • Ensuring HR policies and employment practices are being applied consistently, fairly, and thoughtfully.
  • HR Analytics & Reporting
    • Establishing and monitoring meaningful HR metrics, including headcount, recruitment, turnover, retention, and absenteeism.
    • Providing leadership with relevant HR reporting, insights, and recommendations.
    • Using HR data and trends to identify opportunities to improve organizational effectiveness and employee experience.
  • HR Team Leadership
    • Supervising, coaching, and developing the HR Generalist and other HR team members.
    • Establishing priorities and fostering a collaborative, responsive, and service-oriented HR team.
    • Continuously improving HR processes, programs, and practices to enhance the employee experience.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • 6+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 2 years working with a senior leadership team.
  • Experience working in an engineering, technical, industrial, manufacturing, construction, infrastructure, or project-based environment.
  • Experience supporting organizations of approximately 100+ employees.
  • Strong knowledge of BC employment standards, human rights, and other applicable employment legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing employee relations, workplace investigations, and performance management.
  • Proven experience recruiting professional and technical talent.
  • Experience overseeing compensation, benefits, payroll, HRIS, and timekeeping systems, such as Payworks, ADP, or Deltek.
  • Strong business partnering, coaching, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • CPHR designation is an asset; PCP designation is also considered an asset.

COMPENSATION:

  • $85,000 – $95,000/year
  • Benefits – Extended Medical, Health spending account, RRSP contributions
  • Vacation 3 weeks
