Junior EIC Engineer
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our client, a well-established provider of engineering and automation solutions for industrial operations, is seeking an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience in electrical, instrumentation, and controls (EIC) system design while working on a diverse range of industrial projects. In this role, you will collaborate with experienced professionals to deliver innovative, client-focused solutions in a fast-paced environment where technologies, project requirements, and operational challenges are constantly evolving. The successful candidate will enjoy a dynamic mix of office-based design work and occasional field exposure, supporting projects from concept through implementation while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client expectations.
YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:
- Performing EIC engineering and design for both greenfield and brownfield industrial projects.
- Utilizing industry-standard engineering software and tools to analyze, validate, and optimize electrical systems.
- Creating, modifying, and maintaining electrical design drawings using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Developing electrical schematics in accordance with UL508A and CEC standards, including panel layouts, BOMs, and complete drawing packages for custom control panels.
- Coordinating and communicating with electrical panel fabrication and manufacturing vendors throughout project execution.
- Conducting inspections of electrical equipment and installations, and performing FATs both in-house and at client or vendor facilities as required.
- Managing assigned project tasks to ensure priorities, schedules, and deliverables are met, while providing project managers with progress updates, resource requirements, and accurate time estimates.
- Providing on-site supervision, startup, and commissioning support in accordance with project schedules, including occasional after-hours, weekend, and statutory holiday work when required.
- Maintaining accurate and timely timesheet records, including work hours and project-related comments, in accordance with company policies and reporting deadlines.
- Supporting additional project, engineering, and operational activities as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution.
- Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) in good standing with EGBC.
- Experience designing industrial control panels and associated electrical systems.
- Proficiency with CAD software, preferably AutoCAD Electrical, and Microsoft Office applications including Excel.
- Experience developing digital and analog I/O drawings from I/O lists and specifications.
- Knowledge of AC/DC circuit design, wiring diagrams, wire numbering, fusing, grounding, and related electrical design practices.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information and respond effectively to stakeholder inquiries.
- Exposure to PLC programming, troubleshooting, or industrial control system wiring is considered an asset.
- Ability and willingness to travel a minimum of 20% of the time to support business operations and project requirements.
COMPENSATION:
- $70,000 – $80,000/year (plus $10k+ Bonus)
