Partnering for Progress: Expanding Access to Digital Skills Training

At Arbutus Search Group, we believe in more than just filling jobs — we believe in building pathways, unlocking potential, and creating opportunities that shape stronger communities and industries.

Recently, we had the privilege to contribute to a project that speaks directly to these values. Partnering with DIGITAL, Canada’s global innovation cluster for digital technologies, we supported the Digital Pathways Platform, a groundbreaking initiative designed to help underrepresented groups successfully transition into careers in the digital economy.

Closing Gaps, Opening Doors

For many individuals — including 2SLGBTQI+ community members, people of colour, women, newcomers to Canada, and those living in rural areas — barriers to entering the digital workforce can feel insurmountable. The Digital Pathways Platform was built to address these challenges by providing tailored training opportunities and personalized support.

When the project needed trusted talent to bring the platform to life, Arbutus Search Group stepped in.

Our role? We sourced and placed three critical contractors who helped build the foundation of this initiative:

  • One specialist in database management and reporting, essential for tracking participant progress and outcomes.
  • Two contractors who worked directly with program participants, providing support, helping onboard jobseekers, and helping align their skills and career goals.

These professionals were not only instrumental to the success of the project — the project was equally transformative for them. Prior to this opportunity, all three had faced challenges securing meaningful work in Canada. This contract became a springboard, offering them a vital entry point into rewarding careers.

Real Impact

Through the Digital Pathways Platform, approximately 1,800 individuals received support, tools, and training to pivot into in-demand roles — helping build a more inclusive, future-ready workforce.

For engineering leaders, firm owners, and HR professionals building teams in commercial construction, institutional infrastructure, or modular manufacturing, this story is a timely reminder:

✔️ Talent can come from unexpected places.
✔️ Diverse, community-driven hiring has the power to fuel your projects and your culture.

At Arbutus, we’re proud to support engineering companies in BC’s commercial building, municipal infrastructure, and modular manufacturing sectors by connecting them with skilled professionals who not only meet your technical needs but bring rich, diverse perspectives to your team.

If you’re looking to grow your engineering workforce while also supporting meaningful career pathways, let’s connect.
